It’s not glass!
New-born babies are indeed the most delicate creatures on this planet and it takes a lot to take care of them and groom them into little toddlers and smart individuals.
A lot of things need to be kept in mind when it comes to taking care of new born babies.
In this article, we will tell you how to take care of a newborn baby.
There are several things that need to be kept in mind before giving birth to your little one. Handling a new born is not as easy as you thought. It’s difficult than even your graduation papers!
How to care for a new born is a subject in itself and we will now take different aspects of the same one by one:
- NUTRITION
A very important aspect in every human being’s life, nutrition is the most important thing when it comes to a new born baby. Proper nutrition leads to proper growth which in turn is responsible for healthy development of your new born baby.
Breastfeeding is the main and vital source of nutrition for new born babies and he/she should never be devoid of it. Breastfeeding is not as easy as it seems. Holding the baby in the right position is necessary so that the food and air pipes don’t get blocked and the baby is getting sufficient food. You will definitely require a lot of patience as the baby takes time to adjust and learn how to derive milk from the mother’s breast. Not only this, you have to eat a healthy and nutritious diet and stay hydrated so that the baby gets the right amount of nutrition.
Apart from this, baby food and milk are other sources of nutrition for new born babies but there’s nothing better and more natural than mother’s milk.
- SANITATION
Another important aspect of new born baby care is sanitation. It is important to ensure that the new born is protected from any kind of infection.
Diapers should be used when necessary and should be changed frequently to avoid skin rashes or any kind of infection.
During the first week ok birth, the new born baby should be given bath only once and then regularly (2-3 times a week). Be careful while using products like shampoo, soaps, skin creams etc. as a new-born’s skin is highly sensitive and reactive to chemicals.
3. DON’T IGNORE THE CRYING!
A lot of us make a big mistake when it comes to our new born baby. Often, when babies cry, we try to soothe them, thinking that they are getting cranky because they want to sleep or must be feeling hungry. We don’t realise that there must be something very serious that might be upsetting the little one. Unfortunately, babies cannot speak or express their feelings. ENT (ear, nose and throat) infections are very common during new born baby development as immunity is low during this time and builds up with time. Do consult a doctor if your little one continues to be cranky for a few days.
- VISIT A DOCTOR REGULARY
It is important that you visit a doctor regularly. Pay frequent visits to the doctor during the first year and ensure that your new born is properly vaccinated. Dehydration, Jaundice, Typhoid are few problems that surround new born babies and as parents, you have to be very careful regarding the same.
- A NEW BORN REQUIRES FRESH AIR TOO!
A lot of myths like a new born should not be taken outside during the first 40 days after birth etc. have been continuing for ages together. Let me tell you, it’s all false. You should take your baby on regular car rides and walks in the park, so that your little one can get some fresh air too. Like us, even babies can stay inside all the time!
Apart from the points listed above, a lot of other things are required for proper new-born baby development. Do remember, that it is not the sole responsibility of the mother to take care of the little one. The father has to be equally participative and alert, in fact a bit more because he has to take care of both, the mother and the child.
Be prepared for spending some sleepless nights as the new born baby will keep you wide awake during the first few weeks. Later on, when the baby adjusts to the surrounding, things become better and a proper routine starts building up.
A lot of people will fill your head with advices from here and there. DO NOT GIVE INTO ANY OF THEM! Do remember that you know what is best for your child and act accordingly. Be practical rather than believing in myths. Don’t get hassled over little things and act calmly. If ever you get stressed, remember that everyone has to face this situation one day or the other and make it through, and so will you. You will not even get to know when this time will pass by and you will be rewarded with your baby’s first smile.
